In 1902, George Finnup brought his new bride, Alta Smith Finnup, to the small house at 401 North Ninth.  George had just had his new house fitted out with electric lights, a telephone, a brick sidewalk and an elegant $600 Crown piano. 

Both Frederick and Isabel were born during the time the Finnup's lived in this house. 

Late in 1922, George purchased the big house next door (405 North Ninth) and moved his family there.  Many of the beautiful antique pieces of furniture date back to the mid 1800's and came from George Finnup's father (Frederick) who had hand-crafted furniture in his own factory in Indiana before coming to Garden City.

The family china, hand-painted by Alta Finnup, is displayed in the dining room.  You will note the interesting brickwork in the fireplaces, the leaded glass windows in the sitting area off the entrance, the unique cabinetwork throughout the house and the traditional back staircase that leads down to the kitchen.  Paintings, journals and family portraits provide an excellent history of the Finnup Family.
